The initial 9-hole public course layout designed by Mr. A.
Toogood and constructed by Mr. D. R. Hazell (later Hazell Bros.) was
opened. |
| 1966 |
Ladies met to form a group to play competitive golf on the
course. A Committee was formed to control their activities. The Associate
Founders were Mrs. M. J. Frazer, Mrs. L. M. Balcombe, Mrs. B. M. Hall, Mrs. E.
Crane, Mrs. E. G. Richards, Mrs. M. Stapleton, Mrs. V. N. Griffiths, Mrs. M.
T. Toogood, Mrs. E. M. Hardinge, Mrs. V. E. Southorn, Mrs. R. Abbott, Mrs. A.
Simmons, Mrs. M. Steele & Mrs. P. M. Taylor. |
| 1967 |
September a meeting was arranged to form a similar Committee
for men. The steering Committee formed consisted of Messer's D. R. Hazell,
T. Sward, J. Richards & J. V. Michael. The Inaugural General Meeting
of the Club was held on 10th October 1967. Officers elected were,
Chairman, Mr. D. R. Hazell, Secretary, Mr. J. V. Michael, Treasurer, Mr.
J. Richards, and Committee, Mr. E. M. Donovan & Mr. C.

| 1968 |
At the April meeting of the Committee it was decided to
approach the S.T.G.U. to discuss affiliation with the Union. |
| 1969 |
On the 21st March the Club was granted affiliation with the
S.T.G.U. Mr. J. V. Michael was appointed delegate to the Union. The
Club was named North West Bay Country Golf Club. An Official Opening
Ceremony was held on 22nd June with guests from other Clubs and the S.T.G.U. attending. |
| 1970 |
Discussion commenced with Mr. D. R. Hazell to take over the
total operation of the course. These discussions were protracted and in
fact total and final agreement was not reached until 1973. In the meantime
the Club had taken over the management of the shop in 1972. During the
period - from 1969 to 1970 the second 9-holes were developed and became
operational at about the time that affiliation was granted to the Club. |
| 1976 |
The Housing Department had by now acquired the property that
included the area on which the Golf Course was built and this required the
Club to negotiate a new lease with that body. |
| 1979 |
Three new holes were opened, the 13th, 14th and 18th with
the old 16th, 17th and 18th being abandoned. This constituted the first
major change that the Club had accomplished since acquiring control of the
golf course. The Club also won the 1st Division Country Pennant for the
first time. |
| 1980 |
The Club concluded negotiations to purchase the land on
which the course was built from the Housing Department. A Special General
Meeting held in August 1980 resolved that the Club purchase the land on
which the course is situated at a total cost of $95,000. |
| 1981 |
Mr. Brett Johns won the Tasmanian Amateur Championship. |
| 1983 |
At the A.G.M. the Committee was directed to commence a
long-term development plan for the course. Mr. Brett Johns won the
Tasmanian Amateur Championship for the second time. |
| 1985 |
Mr. Brett Johns won the Tasmanian Amateur Championship for
the third time. |
| 1987 |
Mr. Brett Johns won the Tasmanian Amateur Championship for
the fourth time. |
| 1988 |
At a Special General Meeting held on 12th September the final
course development plan provided by Mr. Peter Toogood and incorporating a
watering system was adopted and put into operation with a minimum of
delay. |
| 1989 |
On the 16th December the first 9-holes of the new
development were opened. The word "Country" was withdrawn from
the Club name. |
| 1990 |
On the 10th November His Excellency General Sir Phillip
Bennett A. C., K. B. E., D. S. O. Governor of Tasmania performed the
official Opening of the completed course development. The development
significantly increased the course length from 5282m to 6108m. Mr. Brett
Johns won the Tasmanian Amateur Championship for the fifth time. |
| 1993 |
Pop-up sprinklers installed around all greens. |
| 1996 |
Fairway watering was installed on 8 holes and a pine tree
removal plan was commenced. |
| 1998 |
Markers were installed at 150m from he center of the green.
The Club purchased and installed a computer. |
| 1999 |
All remaining large pine trees removed from the course. Two
Associates were elected to sit on the Members Committee with full voting
rights. |
| 2000 |
The Club elected to open the course to non-member golfers on
Sundays. Mr. Chris Kline appointed as new Head Green-keeper. |
| 2001 |
A new extension car-park
built with a capacity of an extra 60 cars. New paths to 1st, 17th, 8th
& 6th tees. New dam between 3rd, 4th, and 5th holes, also on 15th
hole. |
| 2002 |
Treated wastewater reticulation implemented with the
remaining 7 unwatered fairways incorporated into the system. |
| 2003 |
Gazebo on the 14th hole and barbeque area near Clubhouse
completed, also major works on the 18th fairway to reduce the incline to
the 18th green completed. The remainder of the pine tree stumps have been
removed and new native tree planting programme implemented. |
| 2005 |
New paths to 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th,
13th, 15th & 16th tees. Cleaning out of rough areas and general
grooming of course. |
The Club was affiliated on the 21st March 1969. It had been
determined by a meeting of the Committee on the 4th March 1969, that all persons
who were paid up Members or obtained Membership of the Club before the
expiration of 30 days from the date of affiliation shall be regarded as "Founder
Members."

Only twice in the history of the Club has the course been closed due to snow.
The 2nd time on the 11th August 2005 for half a day.
